Dedicated to the World School Milk Day, Dairy Asia secretariat, UN FAO, Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry of Mongolia and International Dairy Federation jointly organized the Dairy Asia webinar: School milk program on 28th of September 2021.
Welcoming address and opening speech have delivered by Mr. Z. Mendsaikhan, Minister for Food, Agriculture and Light Industry of Mongolia, Dr Vinod Ahuja, UN FAO representative in Mongolia, and Ms. Caroline Emond, Director General, International Dairy Federation.
In the webinar, the following speakers gave the presentations on the School Milk programs: Dr.Vaghela, representative, National Dairy Development Board of India, Dr. Saroch Ngarmkum, advisor, Department of Livestock Development of Thailand, Dr. Zhao Wei, Director, Promotion Office of China School Milk Program, Dairy Association of China, Mr. Nasim Ali Mandal, Dairy professional, former national consultant at UN FAO in Bangladesh, Dr. Onon, Assistant Director, Food production policy implementation and coordination department, Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry of Mongolia.
In the webinar, presentations were informative and useful, discussions were addressing on the achievements, experiences, and benefits of school milk programs from India, China, Thailand, and Bangladesh, and facing challenges of the implementation and coordination on the school milk programs, IDF initiative on “School milk knowledge hub” and new proposal for School milk program in Mongolia. Around the world, about 160 million school-aged children are having the benefits from receiving milk at the schools.
School milk programs can bring the benefits to various stakeholders including schools, dairy sector, and local economies. It strengthens the milk value chain, from farm to table. Important point is that the implementing school milk program can lead to stabilize the dairy national market. It positively impacts on the children’s growth and development, public health, and nutrition. The commitment between Ministries and agencies responsible for education, food and agriculture, health, and nutrition as well as dairy sector is essential to successfully implementing the school milk programs.
The webinar was moderated by the Mr. Batbaatar Bayarmagnai, coordinator at the Dairy Asia secretariat and his colleague Ms. Anudari, program associate at the UN FAO Representative Office in Mongolia.
